Our Story
Where it all began
Tarsh began in 2024 in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, in the heart of the Madhubani region where Madhubani painting was born.
A simple, stubborn belief
That the most beautiful art in India was being kept in museums and on gallery walls, when it deserved to be worn and carried into the world. Our founder, after three decades in fashion, returned home to Bihar to build something that mattered: a label that turns a two-thousand-year-old folk art into clothing for everyday life.
From one kurti to a promise
What started as an attempt to bring a single hand-painted kurti to life grew into a commitment: to keep an endangered art alive by making it wearable, and to place the women who practise it at the centre of the story.
Rooted in Muzaffarpur
Far from the big fashion capitals, every Tarsh garment is still imagined and made here, close to the source of the art and the artisans who keep it breathing.
